Hillcrest Swim Club Summer 2023 | (download pdf)

Welcome to Hillcrest Country Club’s summer 2023 swim club, where involvement in this swimming club incorporates the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into the swimmers weekly training. We provide a healthy and age-appropriate program for swimmers from novice to experienced level. Swimmers have the opportunity to train, learn, and socialize under the guidance of qualified, caring and professional coaching staff, while also having a blast in the water! Our swim club is a new non-competitive program introducing kids to swimming fundamentals.

Course Schedule:
Week 1: Testing “Show me what you got”
This week will focus mainly on seeing how comfortable swimmers are with the water, reviewing the strokes, while also playing a few water safety games to kick off the season.

Week 2: Butterfly “make like a dolphin”
Emphasis will be on the legs and the kick coming from the hips while introducing arms through skills, particularly single arm.

Week 3: Backstroke “windmill”
Backstroke is a swimming stroke performed on the back with the arms lifted alternately out of the water in a backward circular motion and the legs extended and kicking.

Week 4: Breaststroke “namaste”
Breaststroke is a style of swimming on one’s front, in which the arms are pushed forward and then swept back in a circular movement, while the legs are tucked in toward the body and then kicked out in a corresponding movement.

Week 5: Freestyle “scissor kicks”
The freestyle stroke is swum in a horizontal position with the body facing down. The body rolls from one side to the other, always turning to the side of the arm that is currently pulling in the water.

Week 6: “All together now”
This weeks lessons will combine all of our other lessons together and we will begin to practice all of the strokes together in the same sessions but in the sequence that we covered them. (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) this will be a fun week where the swimmers can show off how much they have learned so far.

Week 7: “Final pyramid”
Swimmers will utilize all of the skills that they learned to show off their strokes by doing an “IM” style race against the clock starting at the blocks. Parents are welcome to stay to see how much their swimmers have learned during the summer season.

Week 8 : “Sharks and Minnows”
Time to wind down after working so hard this season let’s have fun and play some swim games and have some “swim theme” treats to celebrate a great swim season!

*There will be an end of the season pool party where all the swimmers will get together with their families to celebrate all of their hard work!
